Mike is a Director at Arup with over 30 years development planning experience across a range of sectors from early implementation, through the planning process, including expert witness appearances at public inquiry. He has considerable experience developing street layouts associated with large high profile residential, mixed-use and retail / leisure developments and has always endeavoured to put good quality urban design at the forefront of technical solutions for schemes.
In this series of we are tackling the broad topic of Responsible Design and will explore a wide range of topics which could shape how we think about designing the future built environment.
Mike presented his thoughts on embedding sustainability in development and planning projects, and how the evolving world of transport can be applied to development and cities. Touching on Arup research, Mike explored how future technology changes, such as ride hailing and autonomous vehicles, might challenge the design of public realm in the future.
