Declan joined Apt in 2020 after completing his undergraduate and masters degrees at Queen’s University Belfast. Whilst there he was awarded The Architecture Drawing Prize for the hand drawn perspective drawings produced as part of his thesis project. He was also nominated to represent Queen’s University for RIBA Silver Presidents Medals 2020.
He has experience in practice working for Intervention Architecture, a young interdisciplinary design studio based in Birmingham. Here he worked on bespoke residential projects, and gained further experience across the commercial, leisure and arts sectors. His experience covers all the RIBA work stages, from feasibility studies to project completion. For each project Declan deploys a pragmatic and considered approach to design which endeavours to reuse, enhance and extend existing buildings in order to create thoughtful and well-crafted spaces which are pertinent to people’s needs and lifestyle.
Outside of work Declan enjoys exploring his creative talents in printmaking, finding creating woodcut prints as a perfect was to unwind. Having recently moved to the capital, he is making the most of his spare time exploring the sights of London one food market at a time.
